Aletha "Jeanie" Maudwash Hale, 70, of Powhattan, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. She was born on June 27, 1941 in Kansas City, Kansas the daughter of John and Lavina Green Masquat. Jeanie graduated from Haskell College in 1960. Jeanie worked over the years as an accountant for various Indian Tribes. She had most recently worked for the Kickapoo Trading Post as a cashier. She was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe. Survivors include two sons, LaVern Hale and John Hale both of Powhattan, Kansas; two daughters, Jeanette Urista and Rayne Ann Hale both of Mayetta, Kansas; three brothers, Johnny Masquat of Warrensburg, Missouri, Wayne Jessepe and Kenneth Jessepe both of Horton, Kansas; two sisters, Marilyn Jessepe and Nora Parker both of Horton, Kansas; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Arlan Dave Masqua. Native American Church services will be at 6:00 P.M. on Monday evening at Wayne Jessepe's home on the Kickapoo Reservation.
