Amelia Lou "Ma-da-wee" Fuqua, 74, of Horton, Kansas, passed away at her home on the Kickapoo Reservation on Sunday, June 20, 2010. She was born on March 25, 1936 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Henry & Birdie Butler Kawkeka. Amelia married Dale Fuqua and they were later divorced. She was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe enjoyed reading and playing cards. Survivors include five daughters, Mary Jo Frecks of Kansas City, Kansas, Lisa Gayle Fuqua of St. Joseph, Missouri, Sandra Kay Fuqua of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Teresa Ann Fuqua of St. Joseph, Missouri and Carol Jean Jones of St. Joseph, Missouri; two sons, Daniel Richard Fuqua of St. Joseph, Missouri and Roger Leon Fuqua of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Rose Weldon of Atchison, Kansas and Loretta Walker of Horton, Kansas; twenty one grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Daniel Kawkeka and a sister, Georgia Vallejo. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Kickapoo Community Building on the Kickapoo Reservation with burial at the Kennekuk Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
