Avis L. Young, 86, of Everest, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born on June 26, 1924 in Robinson, Kansas the daughter of William and Mary Jane Cowley Greer. Avis was a waitress at the Everest Cafe for 22 years. She was a member of the Everest First Christian Church and the Christian Women's Fellowship. On May 15, 1943 she married Walter A. Young in Hiawatha, Kansas. Survivors include her husband Walter A. Young of the home, Everest, Kansas; son, William & wife Marilyn Young of Bendena, Kansas and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Sheryl Jean Young and a sister, Mary Hartley. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Miller Cemetery east of Everest, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Everest First Christian Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
