Barney Chase Uber, 79, of Horton, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Maple Heights Nursing Center in Hiawatha, Kansas. He was born on February 13, 1934 in Holton, Kansas the son of Jesse and Florence Chase Uber. Barney worked for Rockwell International for over 40 years as an inspector. He also owned and operated Barney's Sharpening Service in Horton, Kansas for over 20 years. Barney served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On October 6, 1957 he married Alice Behrnes at the United Methodist Church in Whiting, Kansas. Barney and Alice just celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary on October 6, 2013 at the Maple Heights Nursing Center. Barney enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Alice of the home, Horton, Kansas; four daughters, JoAnn (Steve) Rundus of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Judy (David) Dickman of Hiawatha, Kansas, Nancy (Warren) Rutland of Willis, Kansas and Bonnie (Mike) Long of Horton, Kansas; a son, Donnie (Nada) Uber of Peculiar, Missouri, seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Twila Uber of Topeka, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Ashley Wilson, son-in-law, Steve Wilson, three brothers, Jesse, Gene and Earl Uber, five sisters, Florence Uber, Juanita Cattrell, Velma Brown, Ellen Miller and Betty Jeffries. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Barney Uber memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
