Bernard E. Rothmier, 90, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on July 16, 2013 at the Tri-County Manor in Horton, Kansas. He was born on December 13, 1922 in Purcell, Kansas the son of August and Laura Siebenmorgen Rothmier. He graduated from Huron High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II where he received the Purple Heart during the Luzon campaign in the Philippines. He served during the Korean War in 1951 and was stationed at Fort Riley. He farmed in Atchison and Brown Counties until he retired in 1984. He moved to Horton in 1988. Bernard was a member of the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas and the American Legion in Everest, Kansas. He is survived by a sister, Anna Lee Farlow of Maple Hill, Kansas and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Larina Mae Day and two brothers, Leonard and Francis Rothmier. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary. Burial will be at the St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery.
