Bertha Kaye Lieb, 73, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on August 15, 2013 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on January 21, 1940 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Louis and Emma Cadue Samqua. Bertha graduated from South Dakota State University with a Master Degree in Education. Bertha was a K-12 guidance counselor for several area schools and retired from Kickapoo Nation. On June 16, 1959 she married Albert J. Lieb in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2011. She was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe and the Kennekuk Church. Survivors include a son, Ryland Lieb of Norman, Oklahoma; two daughters, Twilla Lieb of Horton, Kansas and Joanna Flanders of Cushing, Oklahoma; brother, Edward Samqua of Topeka, Kansas, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Vera Baldwin and Beulah Oliver, three brothers, Pascal, LaVern and Cletis Samqua. Kennekuk Church services will be at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Kickapoo Community Building. Burial will be at the Kennekuk Cemetery on Monday morning.
