Obituary

Betty Jean Kah-ni-quah Brown, 78, of Horton, Kansas passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the St. Francis Health Center in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on October 21, 1932 in Prague, Oklahoma the daughter of the late Kenneth Cadue and Minnie Oliver-Thomas. Betty grew up in Oklahoma and later moved to the Horton community. She attended St. Benedictine's College in Atchison, Kansas where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. Betty worked as a seamstress at the Horton garment factory and Nurses Aide at the St. Francis Hospital and VA Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Betty then became a alcohol and drug counselor for many years and worked for the Kickapoo Tribe. She also most recently worked for the Everest Middle School as a para-professional. She was a member of the Chapel of Faith Church, Kahbeah Chapel and the Kickapoo Tribe. Betty devoted many years of service as a lay speaker and directed numerous Vacation Bible Schools and church work. Betty married Harold Brown in March of 1950. He survives of the home. Other survivors include four daughters; Tina Blackburn of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Linda Bontrager, Wanda Wolf and Bertha Brown all of Horton, Kansas; son Ronald Brown of Horton, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stanford Walker and Kenneth Cadue. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. Burial will be at the Mitchell Cemetery near Mayetta, Kansas.
