Catherine E. Halda, 91, passed away peacefully August 1, 2010; she was a resident of Marian Manor in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born in St. Marks, Kansas on May 31, 1919 the daughter of Marge and Bill Roths. Catherine was the oldest of 10 children growing up on a farm in western Kansas. She married Francis Halda in 1940 and moved to Horton KS where she resided until 2002.
She is survived by one daughter Shirley McClaskey of Virginia Beach, VA; four sons Bill and wife Mary Halda of Spring Hill, KS, Jerry Halda of Savannah, MO, Dick and wife Julie Halda of Solon, OH, and Larry and wife Christa Halda of Chesapeake, VA. 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Tarcissia Roths ASC of Wichita, KS; three brothers, Bob Roths of Weed CA, Jim Roths of Sunrise Beach, MO and Mel Roths of Coos Bay OR. She was predeceased by her husband Francis, a grandson Anthony, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, KS. Burial will follow at the St. Leo's Catholic Church Cemetery.

Friends may call the Dishon-Maple Chaney Mortuary in Horton after 9 a.m., Monday, August 9, 2010 where A Prayer Service will be held that evening at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Leo's Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 909 Central, Horton, KS 66439.
