Charles Roy Hartley, 90, of Horton, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Maple Heights Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hiawatha, Kansas. He was born on January 22, 1920 in Atchison County, Kansas the son of William Roscoe and Lillie Leola Stansbarger Hartley. Charles served with the U.S. Army-Air Force during WW II. After being honorably discharged, he went to work as a milk truck driver and then became self employed carpenter for a few years. Charles then went on to work for the Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring on April 29, 1983, after 35 years of service. Charles was a member of the Horton United Methodist Church, Lifetime member of the Horton VFW Post #3021 and the Horton Senior Citizens. On December 30, 1946 he married Mary Beth Greer in Hiawatha, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2004. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Debra Hartley, four brothers, William, Lawrence, Clifford and Eldon Hartley, three sisters, Helen Kramp, Mary Gray and Hallie McCoy. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Horton Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas and then go in procession to the cemetery.
