Charles O. Stirton, 87, of Horton, Kansas passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Horton Community Hospital. Charles was born on June 9, 1924 in Whiting, Kansas the son of William "Henry" and Bena Dahl Stirton. Charlie was a farmer and stock-man most of his life. He also operated a bulldozer for Dallas Kurtz and worked for the City of Horton in the street department. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Horton, Kansas. On April 30, 1943 he married Darlene See in Hiawatha, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include four sons, Dale (Ruth) Stirton, Bill (Sherry) Stirton, Bob Stirton and Tom (Sarah) Stirton all of Horton, Kansas; two daughters, Kay (Eugene) Kimmi of Everest, Kansas and Tammie (Robert) Byers of Horton, Kansas; two brothers, Ralph Stirton of Atchison, Kansas and Harold Stirton of Muscotah, Kansas; one sister, Violet Harden of Huron, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren with the fourteenth due in November; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Charles Eldon Stirton, brother, William Stirton Jr. and two sisters, Bertha Wilson and Mabel Jones. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Brush Creek Cemetery southeast of Horton, Kansas. Memorials may be sent to the Charles Stirton memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
