Claude Raymond Hamon, 90, of Muscotah, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009, at the Horton Community Hospital. He was born on March 24, 1919, on the family farmstead south of Muscotah, Kansas. The son of Roy and Lola (Hubbard) Hamon. He attended Rose Valley Grade School and graduated from Atchison County High School, Effingham, Kansas in 1937. On November 9, 1939 he married Ruby M. Tipling at St. Joseph, Missouri in 1942 during WWII he was inducted into the U.S. Navy and served on the battleship U.S.S. Massachusetts until discharged in 1944. Claude worked in the freight car shops of the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Atchison, Kansas for 11 years. He then worked in Topeka, Kansas for the Santa Fe Railroad for 22 years. Claude was preceded in death by his wife Ruby M. (Tipling) Hamon, his parents, three brothers, Dale, Alfred J. and Robert and a grandchild. Survivors include a sister Wanda Peeveyhouse of Horton, Kansas, son Melvin (wife Helen) of Papillion, NE., son Gary (wife Harriett) of Lawrence, Kansas and daughter Marilyn Wilson (husband Warren) of Muscotah, Kansas. Also 11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, September 7, 2009 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Interment will follow the funeral at the Muscotah Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in care of the mortuary.
