Darlene J. Disney, 82, of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Tri-County Manor. Darlene was born on July 29, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota the daughter of John and Rosa Longbine Schlund. She was a clerical clerk for years and a congressional liaison with social security retiring from the civil service. After retiring and losing her husband Jim she moved to St. Joseph, Missouri for a few years prior to moving to Hiawatha, Kansas. Darlene loved animals, dancing, playing the piano and music. She married Kenneth Brown in 1951 and they later were divorced. She then married James G. Disney in 1975 in Lakewood, Colorado. He preceded her in death in 1982. Survivors include her daughter, Teresa (Dave) Woods of Horton, Kansas; son, Gregory Brown of Broomfield, Colorado; two sisters, Geraldine Brenner of Cedar Grove, Tennesse and Karon Hoffman of Burke, South Dakota; grandson, Nathan Woods of Horton, Kansas and granddaughter, Natalie Brown of Broomfield, Colorado. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Doris Powell and Eunice Schlund, two brothers, Gordon and Eldon Schlund. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church in Hiawatha, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Brown County Humane Society and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton.
