Doris E. Peabody, 86, of Horton, Kansas passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born on August 29, 1927 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Glenn and Mildred Waters Shaffer. Doris was a homemaker and operated a Daycare Center out of her home. She and her husband also owned and operated T.J.'s Bait & Tackle Shop for years. Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church in Horton, Kansas. On November 26, 1947 she married Harlan Peabody Jr. in Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1997. Survivors include a daughter, Tari (Don) Martin of Muscotah, Kansas; two sons, Bruce (Sherri) Peabody and Tracy Peabody both of Horton, Kansas; brother, Bob (Reba) Shaffer of Horton, Kansas; eight grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
