Obituary

Doyle Wayne Howell, 70, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on October 10, 2011 at his home. He was born on December 16, 1940 in Lincoln, Kansas the son of Arthur and Lola Spear Howell. Doyle worked as a Professional Engineer for the Kansas Department of Transportation and several cities throughout Kansas and Nebraska. Doyle served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of the Horton United Methodist Church. Doyle enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing, gardening, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren. On August 14, 1964 he married Julia A. Gruber in Lexington, Nebraska. Survivors include his wife, Julia Howell of the home; his mother, Lola Howell of Lincoln, Kansas; daughter, Mary & Mark Congdon of Milan, Tennessee; two sons, Michael & Holta Howell of Monroe, Washington and Matthew Howell & Susan Odlum of Robinson, Kansas; four brothers, Lyle Howell of Alpharetta, Georgia, Frank Howell of Ames, Iowa, Daryle Howell of Golzalas, Texas and Arthur Howell Jr. of Brookville, Kansas; a sister, Cheryl Lepisto of Mission, Kansas; three grandchildren, Andrew Howell, Maranda and Mariah Congdon. He was preceded in death by his father, two grandsons, Quincy and Drake Howell, brother, Robert Jones and sister, Vaudene Field. Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Private family internment will be at the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Lincoln, Kansas.
