Gary Lee Firkins, 68, of Holton, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Jackson County Medical Lodge in Holton, Kansas. He was born on June 3, 1943 in Oneida, Kansas the son of Russell and Mabel Holdren Firkins. A year after he was born the family moved to Wetmore, Kansas. In June of 1960 Gary enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic for 11 years serving God, country and fellow man until he became disabled. Gary received his B.A. in Aviation Science from Clayton University College in Missouri. Gary then went to work at a private aviation career school in San Antonio, Texas. He retired as the School Assistant Director and Director of Aviation Programs. We will all miss Gary. Survivors include his sister, Cathryne Joan Finger of Holton, Kansas; a brother, Robert Firkins and wife Lil of Lake Jackson, Texas; devoted friends, Pat Eskew of Yukon, Oklahoma, Brigitte Asbury, Velma Andrew, Gary and Claudia Kruger all of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clyde Firkins and devoted partner and friend, Donald Asbury. Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Wetmore Cemetery. Friends may call anytime Thursday and Friday at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
