Obituary

Gladys Laura Hawley, 81, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on January 6, 2009 at her home on the Kickapoo Reservation. She was born on November 6, 1927 on the Kickapoo Reservation the daughter of Benjamin H. & Irene McGossie Cadue. She was married to Vernon E. Hawley for forty one years, he preceded her in death on November 29, 2004. Gladys was a homemaker, enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, fishing and was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe, Kennekuk Church, Kickapoo American Legion Auxiliary Unit 415, We-ta-se American Legion Auxiliary Unit 410 as the Historian. Survivors include five daughters, Mickey Jean Martinez of Topeka, Kansas, Lola Wilson of Horton, Kansas, Alice Potts & Rose Potts of Mayetta, Kansas, Loretta Cashman of Kansas City, Missouri and an adopted daughter, Charlene Whitebird of Horton, Kansas; five sons, Benny Potts, Myron "Jim" Potts & Bryon Darnall all of Mayetta, Kansas, Terry Woodruff of Emmett, Kansas and Jeffrey Jeannotte of Tempe, Arizona; three sisters, Marlene Jeannotte, Maxine Hinkle and Eunice Tucker all of Horton, Kansas; thirty seven grandchildren, one hundred eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Soldier and three brothers, Phillip, Norman and Calvin Cadue. Kennekuk Church services will be at 5:30 P.M. on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Kickapoo Community Building on the Kickapoo Reservation. Burial will be on Friday after dinner at the Kennekuk Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Gladys Hawley memorial fund and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
