Leota Hollis, 89, of Horton, Kansas formerly of Muscotah, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Tri-County Manor in Horton. She was born on October 18, 1921 in Denison, Kansas the daughter of Eliga and Grace Rodkey Ray. Leota worked for Avon as a sales representative for over twenty years. She was a member of the Muscotah United Church, Half Century Club, First Nighters Club and several Bible Study groups. On August 2, 1943 she married Fred Hollis Jr. in Clovis, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1994. Survivors include a son, Carl "Swede" & his wife Shirley Hollis of Horton, Kansas; two grandsons, Cale and Lance Hollis both of Horton, Kansas; brother, Samuel Raphael Ray of Lawrence, Kansas; three sisters, Bessie Monson of Warrensburg, Missouri, Susie Justice of Holton, Kansas and Daisy Mae Kiefer of Blue Springs, Missouri. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Ray and Gertrude Schneider, five brothers, Albert, Charles, Martin, Ralph and one infant brother. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Muscotah Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Tri-County Manor and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
