Obituary

Harold Eugene Bennaka, 75, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Horton Community Hospital. He was born on July 14, 1937 in Horton, Kansas the son of Earl and Ada Linnemann Bennaka. He graduated from Everest High School in 1955. When he was a senior in High School his basketball team competed in the state championship finals. Harold was a grain elevator operator for various coops in Brown and Atchison counties. He was an avid sports fan, watching all sports and especially watching Nascar racing. Harold loved fishing, hunting, bowling, playing softball, playing pool and collecting cans. He married Kathy Soyland on August 7, 1958 in Belleville, Illinois. They were married for twenty seven years. He then married Sandra Stephens on September 4, 1993 in Horton, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include, four sons, Mike (Sheri) Bennaka of Independence, Missouri, Larry Bennaka of Houston, Texas, Scott (Brenda) Bennaka of Independence, Missouri and Travis Herod of Lawrence, Kansas; two daughters, Tonya (Troy) Proffitt of Whiting, Kansas and Tina Herod of Horton, Kansas; brother, Danny "Joe" Bennaka of Quincy, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton where the family will greet friends on Friday evening from 6 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Harold Bennaka memorial fund to be designated later. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
