Helen C. Lanter, 90, of Everest, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born on May 19, 1921, in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of the late Burt Keller Lewis and Estella Lois (Mason) Lewis. Helen graduated from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri, with a Bachelor Degree in Education, majoring in Business and Home Economics in 1947. She taught school for 33 years in Missouri, Iowa and Kansas Schools, retiring from Atchison High School where she taught for 23 years. There she was the head of the Business Department. She was a member of the Everest Christian Church where she served as an elder, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent, Christian Womens Fellowship group, Blue Ribbon Community Club and Huron Chapter No.461 Eastern Star. On November 21, 1948 she married Donald Albert Lanter in Maryville, Missouri and lived in the Everest Community. Survivors include a son, Larry (Debbie) Lanter of rural Everest, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Lewis, of Ravenwood, Missouri; six grandchildren, Michael (Bailey) Lanter, Nicholas Lanter, Bridget (Pat) Streeter, Michele (Tony) Kimmi, Lindsey (Mitchell) Bowen, Ryan (Jeni) Lanter and eleven great grandchildren,Tiffin Lanter, Mitchell and Marcus Welch, Ashley, Kaelyn and Trenton Kimmi, Kale, Chase and Mason Bowen and Crayton and Raelyn Lanter. Helen was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Donald Lanter, her parents, a son, Gary Lanter, a brother, B.K. Lewis and a great granddaughter Taylor Kimmi. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Monday evening from 7 to 8:00 P.M.
