Obituary

Ida "Pauline" Grosfield, 82, of rural Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. She was born on February 16, 1932 in Robinson, Kansas the daughter of William and Ida McLaughlin Earp. Pauline was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, WELCA, Dorcas Sewing Circle, Charter member of the National Association of Wheat Weavers, Chapter EE PEO and past member of the Kansas Association of Straw Artists. She was a lady of many crafts, first sewing for her family, then doing crafts of the current time period. About 35 years ago she took a class on Wheat Weaving that created a strong interest and she began making items from wheat. She began teaching others the art and produced a video titled Wheat Weaving for Beginners. She also taught classes for the National Association of Wheat Weavers to National and International students on the art of making paper from the wheat straw. On September 26, 1953 she married L. Burton Grosfield in Horton, Kansas. She worked as a cosmetologist prior to her marriage to L.B. She then became a homemaker, raising her children and helping L.B. on the family farm. Survivors include her husband, L.B. Grosfield of the home; four daughters, Tonya Jones (Michael Lambert) of Phoenix, Arizona, Michele (Bruce) Gaskell of rural Hiawatha, Kansas, Paula (Kevin) Hoops of Byron, Nebraska and Nada (Donnie) Uber of Peculiar, Missouri; brother, Harold (Jean) Earp of Everest, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Gladys Shelton, Thelma Stevens and Audrey Bradbury. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Friday from 12:30 until service time. Burial will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Northwest of Everest, Kansas.
