Obituary

"Jeri" Ethel Geraldine Smith, 78, of Horton, Kansas, passed away June 1, 2008 at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born on December 19, 1929 in Severance, Kansas the daughter of Ira William & Anna Louise Long Frump. Jeri owned and operated Jeri's Beauty Shop from 1950-1974 and then was a secretary for the Horton Chamber of Commerce, she then was a CNA and Beauty Shop operator at the Tri-County Manor and then worked for the Horton Community Hospital as a CNA and in the Therapy Department for years until her retirement. She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star, enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. On August 13, 1949 she married Norman D. Smith in Atchison, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1999. Survivors include a son, David & his wife Susan Smith of Atchison, Kansas; daughters, Connie & husband Gary Moman of Horton, Kansas, Linda & husband Harry Johnston of Greeley, Colorado, Kathy and husband Eddie Oswald of Horton, Kansas and Victoria Simone & husband Tommy Dunn of New Bern, North Carolina; brother, Bill Frump of Severance, Kansas; sisters, Judy Garcia of Tampa, Florida and Pearl Rice of Lancaster, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren, Corey Moman, Mandy Lee, Karla Smith, Kristen Smith, Kimberly Smith, Ryan Smith, Gregory Smith, Eddie Molt, Darrin Molt, Lucinda Hughes, Jennifer Johnston, Karry Oswald, Jason Oswald, Victoria Nichole Dunn and twenty three great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Joan Farr and great granddaughter, Alexis Johnston. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Nichole Dunn electric wheelchair fund in care of the mortuary.
