Joe Vernon Patterson, 93, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. He was born on August 28, 1927 in Linn Creek, Missouri, the son of William and Velma Green Patterson. Joe served in the U.S. Army before becoming an over the road truck driver. Joe also worked as a deputy for the Brown County Sheriff's Department, the Kickapoo Tribal Police Department and for the Golden Eagle Casino. He enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips in his spare time with his family. On October 17, 1953 he married Mary Belle Ray in Versailles, Missouri. Survivors include his wife, Mary Belle Patterson of the home; son, Bill Patterson of Horton, Kansas; and a sister, Billie Hibdon of Gravois, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Frankie Patterson and Rebecca Patterson, five sisters, Hazel Scott, Ruth Cavines, Dorothy Waisner, Freda Laughunn and Mary Lou Pipes and two brothers, Edwin "Bud" Patterson and Jack Patterson.
