Joyce Elaine Hendrickson "Penny-aw-ga-quah", 86, of Powhattan, KS died Saturday morning, September 14, 2019 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.
She was born January 12, 1933 in Horton, KS the daughter of Nelson and Madeline Cadue Green. She grew up in the Powhattan area attending schools there. She then attended and graduated from Haskell University. After college, Joyce worked for the US Government in several different capacities. Including taking care of children at boarding schools and later buying and purchasing vehicles. She had various jobs throughout her lifetime.
Joyce married Robert "Bobby Joe" Hendrickson in Wyandotte County, KS on November 18, 1969. They lived in the Kansas City area and later moved to Powhattan. He survives of the home.
She was a member of the Kickapoo Ladies Auxillary, Kennekuk Indian Church, and a Kickapoo Tribal Member. She was a very spiritual person that always had a positive attitude towards life. Joyce will be remembered for always having a smile on her face.
Other survivors include a step son Robert Hendrickson, Jr and step daughter Rita Hendrickson both of Kansas City, 8 step grandchildren, 18 step great grandchildren, 5 step great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Cedric Joe Masqua and Jerome Masqua and an infant sister.
Friends may call the funeral home after 10 a.m., Monday, September 14, 2019 where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. that evening.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the Kennekuk Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation.
Memorials are suggested in her name and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary 909 Central Horton, KS 66439.
