Obituary

Joyce E. Lockwood, 57, of rural Hiawatha, Ks. passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at her home. Joyce was born on November 4, 1954 in Hiawatha, Kansas the daughter of Ivan and Alma Spellmeier Wenger. Joyce grew up in the Powhattan area and graduated from Powhattan High School. After high school Joyce went on to become a Registered Nurse. She worked at Stormont Vail Hospital, Horton Hospital and most recently as a cardiac rehabilitation nurse at the Hiawatha Hospital. Joyce was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the W-ELCA. She enjoyed helping with the Brown County Relay for life, gardening, quilting and spending time with her family. On March 5, 1977 she married Thomas Lockwood in Fairview, Kansas. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Rex (Nicki) Lockwood and their children, Tatum, Trey and Trent of rural Hiawatha, Kansas and Tony Lockwood of Eudora, Kansas; a daughter, Margo (Steve) Chartier and their children, Piper and Wyatt of rural Horton, Kansas; sister, Roberta (Carol) Plattner of Bern, Kansas; her father and mother in law, Leon and Mary Jane Lockwood of Horton, Kansas; two sister in laws, Cathy Sands and Susie Lednicky both of Horton, Kansas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Everest, Kansas. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. The family will greet friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton. Memorials may be sent to the Brown County Relay for Life or the Zion Lutheran Church both may be sent in care of the mortuary.
