Lillian A. West, 89, of Horton, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born on January 13, 1921 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of John & Mayme Peck Anwyl. Lillian graduated from Horton High School in 1939. After high school she worked in the Horton Hospital Office as a secretary for many years. She then worked for the Horton Chamber of Commerce as a secretary and a clerk for Gockel's Grocery and most recently a teacher's aide at the Horton Grade School and helped in the cafeteria at the Horton High School. Lillian was a member of the Horton United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. On October 20, 1944 she married Rex West Sr. in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Julie West Halda & husband Richard of Solon, Ohio; two sons, Rex West Jr. of Horton, Kansas and Scott West of Manhattan, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jennifer Halda, Jessica Halda, Jillian Halda and Melissa West Lowe; two great grandchildren Allison and Colton Lowe. She was also preceded in death her parents, daughter, Jeannette Ann West, four brothers, Charles, John, Robert & Frank Anwyl, and a sister, Mary Grafton. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas and on Wednesday from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M. and then go in procession to the Horton Cemetery for graveside services at 2:00 P.M. Following the graveside service everyone is welcome to the Horton United Methodist Fellowship hall for a luncheon.
