Lloyd Donald Jacobson, 86, of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Maple Heights Care Center in Hiawatha, Kansas where he had called his home since 2008. He was born on April 20, 1927 to Jacob and Sudie Nottingham Jacobson at their rural Robinson home. Lloyd was a baptized and confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church Everest, Kansas. He attended Temple Grade School and then went to work with his father and uncles in their corn shelling business. Lloyd was always a very hard working man and worked many years for numerous area farmers and friends and for Moss Grain in Willis. After his father's death in 1963, Lloyd cared for his mother, Sudie, at their farm home until she entered Maple Heights. Lloyd never missed a day visiting her until her death in 1984. In 1981 Lloyd had retired and moved to Arbor Knoll Apartments in Horton. Lloyd enjoyed living near Ruth Ann and Alvin. Lloyd never met a stranger and had a remarkable memory for remembering everyone he met. He knew everyone's birthday and anniversary dates. He was also very good with mathematics. Chances are if you wanted to know something about where someone lived, who was related to who, or who ever farmed a certain farm in Brown County. Lloyd would be the one to ask. Lloyd enjoyed family get togethers and going out to Gus's to eat. He would also introduce you to others so they would know you were his family. Lloyd was a down to earth person who would have done anything for anyone. Lloyd enjoyed his can of pop at 2:00 on the dot in the afternoon, bananas and fried chicken from Lindy's. He was also an avid reader, particularly of western books. He loved growing plants and flowers. He so looked forward to Ruth Ann's visits to Maple Heights and their shopping trips around Hiawatha. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and a great nephew. He is survived by a sister, Ruth Ann (Alvin) Selland of Hiawatha, Kansas; three nephews, Wesley (Julie) Selland of Everest, Kansas, Stanley (Debbie) Selland of Willis, Kansas and John Selland of Garden City, Missouri; two great nieces, seven great nephews, three great great nephews and three great great nieces and many cousins, friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Zion Lutheran Church north of Everest, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
