Lloyd Francis Schaefer, 91, of Effingham, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Atchison Medical Lodge. He was born on April 9, 1921 the son of John C. and Gertrude M. Schuetz Schaefer. Lloyd was a Road Master for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 35 years. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Lloyd was a member of the St. Leo's Catholic Church. On June 1, 1944 he married Virginia Soden in Horton, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 5, 2012. Survivors include a son, Steven (Linda) Schaefer of Atchison, Kansas; sister, Rose (Bill) Willis of Horton, Kansas; brother, Leo Schaefer of Horton, Kansas; two grandsons, Russell (Rosanna) Schaefer of Lenexa, Kansas and Ricky (Tonya) Schaefer of Kansas City, Kansas; three great grandsons. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Teresa Richling, Wilma Peregrine, Thelma McGee and Mary Kaman, three brothers, Kenneth, Vernon and Howard Schaefer. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. A Prayer service will be at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary where the family will greet friends following the Prayer service. Burial will be at the Rosehill Cemetery, Robinson, Kansas. Memorials may be sent to the Lloyd Schaefer memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
