Lloyd G. Schuetz, 99, of Horton, KS. passed away on May 26th at Lexington Park Retirement Community, 26 days prior to his 100th Birthday. He was born on June 21st, 1913 in Germantown (Mercier), KS. the son of Charles and Josephine Burkart Schuetz.
Lloyd served in the Army with distinction and honor in World War II. He worked for the McClellan Chevrolet Garage and later for John Uhlrich Chevrolet until he started his own business with his entrepreneuial spirit. Lloyd served two terms as Mayor of Horton, served as past President of the Horton Lions Club, served on the Horton Community Hospital & the Tri County Manor boards for numerous years, and was an active member of the VFW & American Legion. He was an active member of St. Leo's Catholic Parish. He was also an avid KU Jayhawk fan.
He married Georgia A. Stone on June 5th, 1946 at St Leo's Catholic Church in Horton. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2007. Survivors include a daughter, Connie (Mike) Thonen of Topeka KS. son, Scott Schuetz of Des Moines, IA.; sister, Rita (Al) Winkelbauer; two grandchildren, Jill Johnson of Dallas TX. and Casey Thonen of Topeka KS.& a great grandchild due in the Fall. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Cindy Jo Schuetz, four brothers Harland, Leon, Raymond, Clement & two sisters, Lillian Williams & Genevieve Armstrong.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29th with visitation to follow at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, KS. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 30th at the St Leo's Catholic Church with burial at St Leo's Catholic cemetery.
