Lorenzo "Pyat-wah-tuk" Shopteese, 78, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at his home on the Kickapoo Reservation. He was born on January 27, 1933 in Horton, Kansas the son of Francis and Josephine Thomas Shopteese. Lorenzo was active in sports while in school. He worked his whole life, and retired from Rockwell International after 35 years. He also worked for the Kickapoo Senior Center delivering meals and retired from there. He enjoyed playing scat with his friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Lorenzo was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribe and the Kennekuk Indian Church. Lorenzo married Nellie Green in 1953 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Virgil, Vernon and Thurman Shopteese, step father, Rollette Cadue, daughter, Joan Shopteese, two sons, Lorenzo Jr. and Roland Shopteese and a grandson Jeremy Simon. Survivors include four sons, Michael and Ryan Shopteese, Greg Negonsott all of Horton, Kansas and John Shopteese of Norman, Oklahoma; four daughters, Shirley Shopteese of Topeka, Kansas, Christine Shopteese and Michelle Matchie of Horton, Kansas, Crystal Shopteese of Mayetta, Kansas; two sisters, Geraldine Shopteese of Mayetta, Kansas and Angie Cadue of Horton, Kansas; three brothers, Steve Cadue of Lawrence, Kansas, Tom Cadue of Kansas City, Kansas and Charlie Switch of Horton, Kansas; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kennekuk Church Services will be held at 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Kickapoo Community Building on the Kickapoo Reservation. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Kennekuk Indian Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
