Luella B. Katz, 90, of rural Everest, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the Tri-County Manor in Horton, Kansas. She was born on June 6, 1923 on the home place north of Everest, Kansas the daughter of Daniel and Nellie Jefferies Barnett. On July 25, 1945 she married Joseph Katz in Kansas City, Kansas. Luella and Joseph lived in Kansas City and Branson, prior to moving back to the family farm in 1976. Joseph passed away on March 26, 1981. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Luella was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Alma Bland, Erma Burns, Gertie Bangert and Vertie Tyrer; three brothers, Velma Barnett, Derric Barnett and Malcolm Barnett. Luella was a homemaker and founded the Brown County Humane Society in 1997. She was an avid animal lover. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Miller Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Brown County Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
