Marjorie Louise
Small
Sep 12, 1926 — Oct 10, 2022
Loveland
Marjorie Louise Keener Small, 96, left this life peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Medical center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado. Her son, Dana was at her side. Marjorie was born September 12, 1926 in Hiawatha, Kansas to Zyrna Louise and Thomas Keener. Her family moved to Horton during her youth and she graduated from Horton High school in 1944. While she was in high school she was a cheerleader and a bugler. She and her great friend and future sister-in-law, Marilyn Goux. would often bugle Taps for funerals at the Horton Cemetery. After having a family she often impressed her children and their friends by playing the bugle on their back porch of their home in Kansas City. She enjoyed reading, being with friends and was a consummate bridge player. On August 3, 1947 she married Ralph Small of Horton and they remained married until Ralph's passing in April 1995. She had many jobs through the years, her favorite being "mom". After they were married Marge was a stay at home mom putting her kids lives first. In 1973 Marge worked for the Illinois Secretary of State in Springfield and she always cherished working there. From 1981 to 1986 Marge and Ralph moved to Saudi Arabia where Ralph was employed. The time in the mid-east gave her the opportunity to travel the world which was priceless for a depression era lady from northeast Kansas. They retired to Estes Park Colorado where she enjoyed the beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park. Preceding her in death besides Ralph were her parents, her older brother Forrest Robert and many beloved pets. Before their deaths she was instrumental in the loving care of her mother and mother-in-law. Left to honor her memory are her daughter Gaye Iwig (Mark) of Johnston, Iowa, her son Dana Small of Loveland and her son, Kevin Small (Irene) of Albuquerque, NM along with six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and a wealth of friends. A graveside service and burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Horton City Cemetery.
