Obituary

Marlene Louise Jeannotte, 92, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hiawatha, Kansas. She was born on March 9, 1934, near Powhattan, Kansas in the back of a buckboard wagon during a terrible blizzard. She is the daughter of Benjamin and Irene McGosie Cadue. Marlene was raised in Horton, Kansas, after graduating from high school she went on to graduate from Haskell College in Lawrence, Kansas. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Indian Health Services in Phoenix, Arizona. On June 7, 1959, she married the love of her life, Elmer “Buzz” Jeannotte in San Fransico, California. She and Buzz celebrated 67 years of marriage. She lived the majority of her life in Tempe, Arizona. When she retired from the Indian Health Service, they moved back to Kansas to retire. Marlene or “Molly” as she was better known survived a childhood case of Tuberculosis and was also a breast cancer survivor. Marlene traveled extensively during her marriage. She was an avid bowler and a member of the Kickapoo Tribe and the ladies auxiliary post #415. She enjoyed blue grass county music and as a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley. Marlene is survived by her husband, Elmer “Buzz” Jeannotte of the home, son, Jeffery Jeannotte of Phoenix, Arizona, daughter, Amy Jeannotte of Winnebago, Nebraska and three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Larry James Jeannotte, seven siblings, Kelvin Cadue, Eunice Tucker, Maxine Hinkle, Phillip Cadue, Minnie Soldier, Norman Cadue and Gladys Hawley. A rosary will be prayed at 10:15 on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 A.M. The family will greet friends from 9:30 until 10:15 at the church. Burial will follow at the Kennekuk Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation.
