Mary K. Holsman, 72, of Horton, Kansas, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born on December 30, 1936 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Charlie & Violet Andrick Boothe. Mary graduated from Whiting High School and then went to Highland Community College where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught school for a few years at a rural country school house near Effingham prior to her marriage. On January 14, 1957 she married Gerald D. Holsman in Atchison, Kansas. Gerald and her moved to the family farm near Whiting, Kansas where she helped her husband on the farm for five years. Then her and Gerald moved to Horton where she began working for the Tri-County Manor as a Certified Nurses Aide for a few years. She then went on to work for the Horton Community Hospital as a Certified Nurses Aide and in the Kitchen for over 20 years until her retirement. After her retirement she volunteered for over 10 years at the Horton Hospital Auxiliary Thrift shop. Mary is survived by her husband, Gerald of the home, Horton, Kansas; daughter, Nancy Allen of Savannah, Missouri, two sons, Dennis Holsman of Horton, Kansas and Doug Holsman of Moreno Valley, California; sister, Jeannie Hrabik of Wilson, Kansas; six grandchildren, Kallista Allen, Talia Allen, Cody Holsman, Katelyn Holsman, Jeff Holsman and Joey Holsman and a favorite cousin, Gail Washburn of Topeka, Kansas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Springhill Cemetery, Whiting, Kansas. Memorials may be sent to the Mary Holsman memorial fund to be designated later in care of the mortuary.
