Mary Lou Monson, 85, of Everest, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born on July 6, 1925 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Robert & Bessie Gill Andrews. On November 3, 1945 she married John B. Monson in Atchison, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1983. Mary Lou and her husband owned and operated Monson Hardware in Everest, Kansas. Mary Lou was a member of the Everest American Legion Auxiliary, Historical Society, United Methodist Church, Chamber of Commerce and the Hiawatha Elks Lodge. She is survived by two sons, Richard B. Monson of Plano, Texas and Michael G. Monson of Everest, Kansas; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Miller Cemetery east of Everest, Kansas. Memorials may be sent to the Everest American Legion in care of the mortuary.
