Obituary

Melanie Jean  "Ke-Wah-Qua" Oliver Williams, 59, of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. She was born on February 15, 1961 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Harry J. and Beulah M. Samqua Oliver. After graduating from high school she went on to graduate from Atchison Vo-Tech and the Highland Community College.  Melanie worked as a cook and for the Golden Eagle Casino in the housekeeping department. She was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe. Survivors include an adopted son, Frank Parker of the Kickapoo Reservation; brother, Timothy (Marichu) Oliver of Horton, Kansas; two sisters, Cindy (Edwin Sr. "Moe") Thomas the Kickapoo Reservation and Tawana Shopteese of Sabetha, Kansas; special friend, David Allen Jr. of Hiawatha, Kansas; best friend, Jo Potter of Mayetta, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 7:00 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Kennekuk Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Melanie Oliver Williams memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
