Phyllis Ann Johnson, 82, of the Kickapoo Reservation, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born on June 15, 1930 at her parents home, on the Kickapoo Reservation, the daughter of Phillip and Hariett Thomas Wewenis. Phyllis was a LPN Nurse for many years before going to work as the Community Health Representative for the Kickapoo Tribe. She was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe and Drum Religion, served on the Powhattan School Board, Kickapoo Tribal Council and Housing Board. Phyllis married Rudolph Johnson Sr. in February of 1955 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Survivors include, three daughters, Ann Horned Eagle, Karen Thomas and Velma Blacksmith all of Horton, Kansas; three sons, Rudolph Johnson Jr. of Horton, Kansas, Randolph Johnson of Powhattan, Kansas and Noah Johnson of Lawrence, Kansas; sister, Rose Allen of Horton, Kansas; brother, Buck Wewenis of Horton, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; adopted father, Gary Mitchell of Mayetta, Kansas; adopted brothers, Henry Washwassuck of Leach Lake, Minnesota and Jr. Thomas of Horton, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Arlene Johnson, sister, Delores Murphy, two brothers, Melford and Donald Wewenis and a adopted sister, Marjorie Pahmahmie. Drum services will be at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Kickapoo Community Building. Burial will be at the Wewenis Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation on Saturday at 8:00 A.M.
