Ralph Eliga Ray, 89, of Muscotah, Kansas passed Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Horton Community Hospital. He was born on November 1, 1919 in Circleville, Kansas the son of Eliga & Grace May Rodkey Ray. Ralph served in World War II form 1942 - 1945. He served on active duty in the European theater in the United States Army. Ralph interred the service as a private and progressed through the ranks being promoted to Private First Class, Corporal and was a Sergeant at the time of his honorable discharge. Ralph was decorated for his service to his country, including the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle. Both Ralph's family and country were proud and grateful for his service to the United States. After the service he worked for Reno Construction and retired after 25 years of employment. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Horton, Kansas. Survivors include four sisters, Bessie Elizabeth Monson of Warrensburg, Missouri, Susie Ann Justice of Holton, Kansas, Grace Leota Hollis and Daisy Mae Kiefer both of Horton, Kansas; a brother, Samuel Raphael Ray of Horton, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ida Geneva Ray and Gertrude Schneider and four brothers Albert, Charles and Martin Ray and also one during infancy. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the Nortonville Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
