Reta "Madeline" Scott, 90, of Burlington, Kansas formerly of Horton, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the Life Care Center in Burlington, Kansas. She was born on September 29, 1918 in Kennekuk, Kansas the daughter of Carl & Frankie Rupe Bechtold. Madeline was a homemaker, seamstress, and bookkeeper for the Horton Headlight newspaper. For many years she volunteered at the Thrift Shop in Horton for the hospital auxiliary. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Burlington, Kansas and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. On October 16, 1939 she married Marvin Scott in Holton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2001. Survivors include a son, Bill & wife Kay Scott of Burlington, Kansas; sister, Veda & husband Kenneth Knudson of Horton, Kansas; grandsons, Brad & wife Juli Scott of Shawnee, Kansas, Jay & wife Amy Scott of Topeka, Kansas; great grandsons, Hayden, Mason, Brogan, and Colin Scott. She was also preceded in death by her parents. The family will greet friends at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. followed by a graveside service at the Horton Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.
