Rita Anna Heinen, 86, of Holton, Kansas formerly of Huron, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Pines in Holton, Kansas. She was born on April 27, 1924 in St. Benedicts, Kansas the daughter of William and Mary Harpenau Lackey. Rita married Edward Heinen on April 27, 1944 in St. Benedicts, Kansas. Ed preceded her in death on February 15, 1991. Rita was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and their Altar Society, Purcell, Kansas and the Oblates of St. Benedicts Abbey, Atchison, Kansas. Rita is survived by three sons, Virgil Heinen of Huron, Kansas, Harold Heinen (Ruby) of Denton, Kansas and Leon Heinen (Patricia) of Plainview, Texas; three daughters, Mary Lou Spellmeier (Ralph) of Hoyt, Kansas, Cynthia Kroge (Al) of Lawrence, Kansas and Edna Bohn (Dale) of Topeka, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Mary Woolsey of Independence, Missouri and Leona Schmelzle of Seneca, Kansas. She was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Gilbert Heinen, two brothers, Leonard Lackey and Vincent Lackey, six sisters, Frances Lackey, Eileen McQueen, Bertha Trudell, Aurelia Fangman, Wilhelmina Koch and Anna Bockerstette. A prayer service will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton where the family will greet friends following the service. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas with burial in the church cemetery.
