Robert L. Blunt, 78, of Effingham, Kansas, passed away on May 18, 2012 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born on August 18, 1933 in Falls City, Nebraska the son of Harold and Helen Klumb Blunt. Bob graduated from Whiting High School in 1951, he then attended Highland Community College and received his Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Emporia State College. He served in the U.S. Army from September 22, 1954 to January 23, 1956, during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. Bob taught school and was the High School Principal in Barnes, Kansas prior to becoming the Superintendent at Wathena U.S.D. 406 for eleven years. He then took the Superintendent's position at A.C.C.H.S in Effingham. He retired from A.C.C.H.S in 1988 after thirty years in Education. He then went on to work as the management trainer for the State of Missouri Department of Mental Health in St. Joseph, Missouri, retiring in 1995. Robert was a member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree both of Effingham, Kansas, and the VFW where he was a charter member and 1st Commander of Post 5531 in Wathena. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 161 in Wathena and the Effingham Lions Club. Bob had also served on the Effingham City Council. On December 15, 1954 he married Virginia R. Moore in Atchison, Kansas, she survives of the home, Effingham, Kansas. Other survivors include five daughters, Diana (Vick) Bear of Wathena, Kansas, Jennifer (Paul) Crandell of Gilbert, Arizona, Lesa Blunt of Wathena, Kansas, Sandra (Larry) Becker of Lancaster, Kansas, Angela and Tom Eckert of Everest, Kansas; one brother Bill (Sally) Blunt of Holton, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Austin Bear, Jeannette Bear, Jackie Tatum, Matt Tatum, B.J. Speer, Wesley Maxfield, Nichole Gonzales, Courtney Grand Pre, Tiffany Grand Pre and Jackson Eckert. five great grandchildren,Dakota Bear, Caden Wolf, Cannon Wolf, Drake Gonzales and Makenzie Gonzales and five step grandchildren, Tyson Crandell, Tanner Crandell, Kaci Cardon, Tucker Crandell and Drew Eckert; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl Blunt. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Effingham, Kansas. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday evening at the church with family visitation to follow. Burial with Military Graveside Rites will be at 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday at the Steele Cemetery in Falls City, Nebraska.
