Rodney Dale Meyers, 64, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Horton Community Hospital. He was born on June 26, 1947 in Horton, Kansas the son of Walter and Ethel Eyer Meyers. Rodney graduated from the Horton High School in 1966. Rodney served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Arthur N. Weir Post #7 and the Horton VFW. Rodney worked for the Horton Headlight as a type setter and Journalist for many years prior to going to work for the City of Horton where he worked for the Water Department, Electric Generation Department and the Parks and Recreation Department. Rodney married Valerie Madere and they were later divorced. He is survived by a son, Ronnie (Melissa) Meyers of Hiawatha, Kansas; brother, George "Ray" (Ruth) Meyers of Horton, Kansas; six grandchildren, Kaitlin Meyers, Bethany Meyers, Tyler Meyers, Jolynn Grant, Virgil Smith and Shawn Green. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Elizabeth Marie Smith on October 3, 2007. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton where the family will greet friends on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until service time. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Horton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rodney Meyers memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
