Obituary

Ronnie G. Wewenis Sr., 58 of the Kickapoo Reservation passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in a motorcycle accident. He was born on June 17, 1964 in Horton, Kansas the son of Marcellin "Buck" and Lavina Masqua Wewenis. Ronnie graduated from Powhattan High School, Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma and Fort Scott Trucking. He was a truck driver for over thirty seven years, most recently was trucking for Fairview Express in Seneca, Kansas. Ronnie was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe. Survivors include his wife, Bernadette Shieldhim of the home; two sons, Phillip (Sarah) Wewenis and Ronnie Wewenis both of Horton, Kansas; four daughters, Grace Wewenis of Horton, Kansas, Christy (Galen) Shieldhim of Rosebud, South Dakota, Gwen Shieldhim of Sioux City, Iowa and Summer Shieldhim of Rosebud, South Dakota; two sisters, Kathy Wewenis and Snooks Ramirez both of Horton, Kansas; adopted father, Lavern "Kabote" Hale of Mayetta, Kansas and mother, Rose Allen of Horton, Kansas; numerous grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Phillip and Samuel Wewenis, three sisters, Vivian Horselooking, Ella Mae Garcia and Rose Anna Wewenis. Wake services and visitation will be at Snooks Ramirez home, 1344 Golden Eagle Road on Friday evening September 30, 2022. Burial will be at sunrise on Saturday morning at the Wewenis Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation.
