Obituary

Rudolph Johnson, Sr., a resident of Ardmore, OK passed from this life on Thursday, January 12, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the age of 85. Rudolph was born on January 5, 1927 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Charlie Johnson and Hinney (Simmer) Johnson.

Rudolph grew up in the eastern Oklahoma towns of Wewoka, Henryetta, and Okemah. He also attended school at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas. While he was attending trade school at Hasketll, Rudolph joined the Army National Guard and following his completion of schooling joined the regular U.S. Army where he faithfully served until he was honorably discharged in 1945.

Rudolph was a member of the McAlister Baptist Church in Overbrook, OK. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed all kinds of hunting. He and his wife were actively involved in language classes to learn their native Creek and Choctaw languages. Known by his family as the consummate handyman, Rudolph always had a repair project in the works. Rudolph married Etta Postoak in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 21, 1992.

He was preceded in death by his mother and his father; a daughter, Arlene Johnson; a brother, Jerome Stanley Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Ramona Harjo.

He is survived by his wife Etta of the home in Ardmore; by four daughters, Zita Marie Medicine of Henryetta, Ann Hornedeagle and husband Clyde of Horton, KS, Velma Delores Blacksmith of Horton, KS, Karen Thomas and husband Jr. of Horton, KS; 3 sons, Rudolph Johnson, Jr. and wife Amy of Horton, KS, Randolph Lee Johnson and wife Rhonda of Powhattan, KS, and Noah Aaron Johnson and wife Renee of Lawrence, KS.; by 19 grandhchildren and 23 great grandchildren; by 3 brothers, Austin Amos Harjo and wife Louise of Muskogee, Josh Harjo of Canadian, and Amon Harjo and wife Sylvia of Anadarko; and by a stepson, Robert McDonald of Ardmore.

Wake services will be at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Velma Blacksmith's house on the Kickapoo Reservation. Burial will be at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday morning at the Wewenis Cemetery. www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
