Theron "Butch" Eugene Dexter, 67, of rural Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. He was born on May 10, 1941 in Merrill, Oregon, the son of Theron and Grace Moman Dexter. He grew up and attended school in Horton, Kansas. He went into the U.S. Army in June of 1958. He was sent to Germany in March of 1959. He then returned home and was discharged from the Army in 1961. Butch was a welder at Rockwell International in Atchison and then worked for Allis Chalmers in Topeka prior to going work for Alamo in Holton, Kansas. He married Evelyn Coots in August of 1964. They had four children and were later divorced in 1985. He then later married Sharon Loyd Mueller on September 21, 1997 in Powhattan, Kansas. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Michael Dexter of Topeka, Kansas and Chad & his wife Chastity Dexter also of Topeka, Kansas; two daughters, Michelle Dexter and Kathy Dexter both of Topeka, Kansas; two step-sons, Mark Levret of Powhattan, Kansas and Jamie & his wife Sherry Levret of Topeka, Kansas; step-daughter, Charleen & her husband Bill White of rural Hiawatha, Kansas; two sisters, Ruth Meyers & husband Raymond of Horton, Kansas and Carol Sue Dexter of Shiocton, Wisconsin; a brother, Wayne & his wife Nila Dexter of Horton, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother at birth, Jimmy Dexter and two nephews, Michael Meyers and Kenny Evener. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Burial with Military Graveside Rites will be at the Claytonville Cemetery, Southeast of Hiawatha, Kansas. Memorials may be sent to the Claytonville Cemetery in care of the mortuary.
