Bill Wilson, 71 of Horton passed away on November 17, 2008 at his home. Bill was born January 2, 1937 at Horton, Ks the son of Glen and Bertha (Stirton) Wilson. He grew up on his family farm south of Horton and attended a one-room country school, "Fairview." Bill was active in Future Farmers of America; received the Star Green Hand Award and was the recipient of the 1955 Kansas State Farmer Degree. Bill was treasurer of the Atchison Co. F.F.A Chapter. He also won the over-all All Breeds Dairy Show Judging Contest, Horton, Ks. Bill was a member of the Brush Creek 4-H Club. Bill married Lila Hochstetler July 30, 1960 at the Horton First Baptist Church where he was later baptized. Lila survives of the home. Bill and family received the F.H.A. Dist. #3 Farm Family of the Year Award; served many years as President of the Atchison County Dairy Board, member of Dairy Herd Improvement Association (D.H.I.A.), and Registered Holstein Association. Bill served as Treasurer of Grasshopper Township Board and long-standing President of Brush Creek Cemetery Board. The Bill Wilson Family was honored for Atchison Co. 4-H Family of the Year. Survivors include daughters Wanda and husband Dale Small of Muscotah, Ks. And Sharyl and husband Phil Leitch of Muscotah. He is also survived by three sons, James "Jim" Wilson and wife Lisa, Effingham, Ks.; Kenneth Wilson and wife, Marlise, Horton, Ks.; Keith Wilson and wife, Dolly, Muscotah, Ks., and numerous grandchildren. Other survivors include four sisters, Norma Pederson, Muscotah, Ks., Violet Thorne, Chanute, Ks., Judith Wilson, K.C., Mo., and Carol Speer, Horton, Ks. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Sawyer. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, Horton, Ks. Services will also be at the mortuary at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 21, 2008. Burial will be at the Brush Creek Cemetery.
