Wilma S. (Lierz) Ross, 80, of Horton, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on October 2, 1932 in Seneca, Kansas the daughter of Lawrence and Melinda Hasenkamp Lierz. Wilma will be greatly missed by her husband Norman Ross and her children; Louann (Kevin) Olley of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Barbara McClain of Everest, Kansas, Dennis (Lynda) Ross of Horton, Kansas, Tim (Jana) Ross of Horton, Kansas, Tom Ross of Palmer, Puerto Rico, David (Molly) Ross of Clinton, Washington, Kathy (Kevin) Brox of Grayslake, Illinois, Richard (Susan) Ross of Sitka, Alaska. She was a grandmother of 23 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include sisters, Gerri Edwards of Marysville, Kansas, Norma Jean Hirt of Waterville, Kansas, Shirley Hutfles of Wetmore, Kansas, Alberta Tanking of Holton, Kansas and one brother, Robert Lierz of Topeka, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Joseph Lawrence Ross, brothers, Leonard Lierz, Leroy Lierz, Larry Lierz and Walt Lierz. Wilma was a loving wife to Norman for 62 years. She and Norman were married on April 9, 1951 in Wetmore, Kansas. Wilma was a homemaker and worked in various Horton businesses throughout her career. She worked at the First National Bank in Sitka, Alaska for many years before retiring in 1991 and moving back to Horton, Kansas. Wilma was a past member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Sitka, Alaska and a member of the C.C.W. ladies church group. She taught religious classes for St. Gregory's CCD program. She was also an active member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton and a member of St. Leo's Altar Society where she also served as president of the Altar Society in her early years and other various church committees. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. A rosary will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton where the family will greet friends following the rosary.
